When your bite is properly aligned, the teeth should mesh together like gears. If the teeth don't fit together correctly, problems can arise with symptoms including headaches, popping and cracking of the jaws, jaw pain, and muscle pain in the head, neck and face. Some people clench and grind their teeth in an effort to find a comfortable bite.
Occlusal Adjustment is a procedure in which we smooth and round minute areas of the molars to reshape the teeth for a better fit. No numbing is needed and adjustments can usually be made in one or two appointments. This procedure is also sometimes used to make minor adjustments after braces are removed.
The bite should always be evaluated prior to any restorations being placed so an incorrect bite is not perpetuated.
